Introduction to Butokukan

Butokukan is a small karate style whose practioners are largely located in Washington State and in British Columbia, Canada. The style incorporates flowing motions and techniques from other martial arts, including kung fu and aikido.

The style was created in 1963 by Yochi Nakachi who was in Washington State on a scholarship from Japan at the time.

As a smaller style, regular interaction with Soke (grand master) Robert Hill and the senior black belts is common for all levels of students.

The style is governed by the Japan America Butokukan Karate Association (JABKA). Additional information about the style can be found at http://www.jabka.org
